Doors Open Denver (http://doorsopendenver.com/about/) is an annual two-day event that provides opportunities for residents and visitors to explore Denver’s architecture. In previous years, event attendees were stuck using a paper map as a guide to the different sites. For the 2017 event, and using Google Maps API V3 as a base, I built a mobile based map that allows users to navigate the site via their smartphones. A Desktop version was also created.
Features included:
- Current location tracking so that you can see what sites are close by.
- Audio tours for specific locations utilizing SoundCloud.
- The ability to save a site as a favorite.
- Filter sites by type (i.e. Church, Library, Hotel etc.)
- Walking directions.
- Implementation onto their current website.
- Location based alerts. An alert would appear when a user gets within a certain distance of a specific location.
- Data linking. If a change was made to their regular site it would also show up on the mobile map thereby saving them from having to make changes in two places.
